ACS Academic Employment Initiative |
 |
To assist graduate and postdoctoral students, the
ACS Office of Graduate Education and
Department of Career Services are participating in a
presidential program called the
Academic Employment Initiative (AEI). The intent of this
program is twofold: (1) to give colleges and universities
exposure to a larger pool of candidates for faculty positions
than is possible through current recruitment practices; and (2)
to provide candidates the opportunity to convey their teaching
and research goals to a wider audience.

Faculty
Position in Nuclear Chemistry Michigan
State University (MSU) invites applications for a position in
Nuclear Chemistry at the National Superconducting Cyclotron
Laboratory (NSCL) that is expected to have a joint appointment
in the Chemistry Department at MSU. The position is expected to
be filled at the Assistant Professor level; a more advanced
level may be possible depending on the qualifications of the
candidate. The faculty member will be expected to teach
Chemistry and mentor undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate
students as part of a new, vibrant and internationally
recognized experimental research program that complements the
existing program at the NSCL that will continue in the future at
the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) under construction
adjacent to the NSCL. The candidate is also expected to take an
active part in the nuclear science community at NSCL and FRIB.
The NSCL would like to fill the position by the beginning of the
Fall Semester, 2012 and will begin reviewing applications in
April, 2012. Information about the NSCL can be found at
the laboratory's Web site (www.nscl.msu.edu)
and about FRIB at (www.frib.msu.edu
); information about NSCL faculty appointments can be found at
the MSU Human Resources Web site. (http://www.hr.msu.edu/documents/facacadhandbooks/NSCLFacPos.htm)

Colorado School of Mines (Mines) Nuclear Science and Engineering
Program invites applications for an anticipated tenure-track
Assistant Professor position. The Nuclear Science and
Engineering Program is an interdisciplinary graduate program
that stresses the nuclear fuel life cycle. Faculty participating
in the program have the breadth of expertise to address all
aspects of the nuclear fuel life cycle from fuel exploration and
processing, through nuclear power system design and operation,
to fuel recycling, storage and waste remediation, and the
environmental and policy issues
surrounding each of these activities.Applicants must have a
Ph.D. in nuclear engineering, radiochemistry, or a closely
related field and the demonstrated potential for exceptional
teaching and research. Candidates must possess excellent
interpersonal and communication skills and a collaborative style
of research and teaching. Preference will be given to applicants
with expertise in nuclear engineering or radiochemistry as may
be applied to nuclear fuels, the nuclear fuel cycle, processing
and reprocessing of nuclear materials, or management and
environmental stewardship of nuclear materials; or to reactor
design, nuclear reactor thermal hydraulics or reactor control
systems.

Marine
Radiochemistry
As a member of the Radiometrics Laboratory led by the
Laboratory Head, the Research Scientist has to organise the
processing of numerous marine samples/year for analysis on
natural and artificial radionuclides and is responsible for the
relevant project in the IAEA's programme. She/he contributes to
develop new techniques for contamination and process studies in
coastal zones using radioactive and stable isotopes. https://recruitment.iaea.org/vacancies/p/2011/2011_116.html
