Scholarships and Fellowships
![]() The South Carolina Space Grant Program supports undergraduate and graduate research opportunities in the space sciences and related fields with various programs. Each year, undergraduates and graduates have the opportunity to participate in research during the summer and/or throughout the year in ongoing projects sponsored by NASA. Please consult the Consortium Members to obtain contact information for each Space Grant school representative. Only students that are US citizens are eligible to apply for SC Space Grant Consortium programs. For a list of current projects, check out our award list.
Current Programs Graduate Research Assistantship The GRA Program awards assitantships for graduate study leading to research-based masters or doctoral degrees in the fields of science, mathematics, and engineering. Undergraduate Student Research Fellowship Undergraduate Research Awards are available for the academic year or the summer to involve students in authentic NASA-related research. For more information, visit our Undergraduate website. Kathryn D. Sullivan Earth and Marine Science Fellowship As a NASA Mission Specialist, a veteran of three Space Shuttle missions, and as a geologist and oceanographer, Dr. Kathryn Sullivan has gained extensive experience both at sea and in space. NASA Student Internships The SCSGC will provide support for junior and senior college students to participate in the various research programs: NASA Academy at Goddard or Ames, The Undergraduate Research Program (USRP) run by the Virginia Space Grant Consortium, Goddard's USRP, Kennedy's USRP, Langley's LARSS, Marshall's USRP or Contracting Internship Program (NCIP), or any independent research project at a NASA Center. These programs enable undergraduate students to work 10 weeks on-site with a mentor. For more information, visit our Student Internships website. Geospatial Institute for Students and Teachers in Climate Change The South Carolina Space Grant Consortium (SCSGC) Geospatial Institute for Students and Teachers in Climate Change (GIST-CC) is an immersive and integrated multidisciplinary exposure and training for students with various backgrounds and career aspirations. High-Altitude Balloon Program The High-Altitude Balloon Program immerses students in "hands on" learning experiences while working on NASA-related research.
